Drugs of abuse in the community find their way into the workplace, schools and homes. A representative of the Oregon Poinson Center will provide an update on the types of drugs causing the most serious problems in our area today, and those emerging on the horizon. Learn how to recognize the drug's effects and "overdose" risk. Hear about first aid and treatments to save lives.

Founded in 1978, the Oregon Poison Center was established by an act of the Oregon State Legislature to provide emergency treatment advice for patients experiencing a poisoning or toxic exposure.  The Oregon Poison Center at OHSU is the designated regional poison control center for Oregon, Alaska and Guam and is accredited bt\y the America Association of Poison Control Centers. The poison center can be reached at 1-800-222-1222.

The learner will:

  • Name three of the most prevalent drugs of abuse currently in the community

  • Recognize most common signs of overdose

  • Apply appropriate first aid or rescue treatments that may be available
