Department Overview

We are the Adult Medical-Surgical Oncology Inpatient Care Unit for OHSU. Our primary teams are Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, General Surgery, Bone Marrow Transplant, Neurological Oncology, Otolaryngology, Gynecology Oncology, and Radiation Oncology. We collaborate with PT/OT, Dietitians, Pharmacy, Social Work, Case Management, Speech and Language Pathologists and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional care for our patients. Our unit has 30 private beds and provides care for our Bone Marrow Transplant patients who require Positive Pressure Airflow Isolation. In addition, we support the Hepatic Arterial Infusion Pump program with Nuclear Medicine

Our unit has 30 private beds and provides care for our Bone Marrow Transplant patients who require Positive Pressure Airflow Isolation. In addition, we support the Hepatic Arterial Infusion Pump program with Nuclear Medicine.
- Patient Populations: Surgical Oncology: Whipples, liver resections Medical Oncology: Sarcoma, pain crisis, failure to thrive, end of life General Surgery: Esophagectomies, colon resections, and whipples Bone Marrow Transplant: Chemotherapy, GVHD, pain crisis, failure to thrive, end of life Neurological Oncology: CNS lymphoma, brain tumors
- Otolaryngology: Total laryngectomy, TORS, free tissue transfer, pharyngectomy Gynecology Oncology, TAH BSO, lap hysterectomy, chemotherapy Radiation Oncology: I-131, pheochromocytoma treatment General Oncology: End of life care, inpatient hospice. Department Specific Working Conditions: Exposure to chemotherapy, radiation and isolatable conditions for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year or more RN experience in a hospital setting
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) - must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days- 26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
