Five Key Findings on Work Comp Claims in New WCRI Report

Carrier Chronicles summarized a recent report by Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI.) The report, a detailed overview of workers’ compensation injuries occurring between 2017 and 2022, shows: 

"Injury frequency and severity are changing with an increase in shorter-tenured and retirement-age employees in the workforce."

  1. Males account for 58% of all injuries.
  2. Half of all injuries occur with the first two years of employment.
  3. Retirement age employees (currently 23% of the workforce) make up 21% of all injuries.
  4. Two-thirds of injuries were strains, sprains, lacerations and contusions.
  5. Three out of four injuries were from five core industries.
